“Nabla is an enterprise ambient scribe processing 20 million encounters per year across 85,000+ clinicians. The SMART on FHIR integration writes notes directly into Epic, athenahealth, and Oracle Health. Magic Edit personalizes notes through natural language rather than rigid templates. A randomized NEJM trial validated it. The barrier for smaller practices: no published pricing and no way in without a sales conversation.”

Overview

Nabla is a clinical documentation platform with two products: Nabla Copilot (ambient note generation from patient encounters) and Nabla Dictation (real-time voice-to-text). Both are available separately or together. The platform supports 35+ medical specialties and generates structured SOAP-style notes within seconds of the encounter ending.

Nabla operates in a tier of the market alongside Abridge and Microsoft’s DAX Copilot, targeting large health systems rather than individual clinicians. The differentiators at this level come down to EHR integration depth, note accuracy, coding support, and deployment friction.

Nabla’s SMART on FHIR integration writes notes directly into the patient chart in Epic, athenahealth, Oracle Health (Cerner), and Meditech. This is a standards-based connection, meaning it plugs into any EHR that supports FHIR without requiring proprietary point integrations. For health IT teams evaluating ambient scribes, this interoperability is a meaningful advantage over tools that require custom API work per EHR.

Magic Edit is where Nabla introduces a genuinely different approach to personalization. Instead of building rigid note templates, clinicians describe their preferences in natural language: “I want more detail in the Assessment section” or “skip the Review of Systems when it’s a follow-up.” Nabla adapts its output accordingly and applies those preferences to future encounters. The idea is that the note learns the clinician, not the other way around.

The 2025 NEJM AI randomized trial is worth noting for what it actually showed. Nabla clinicians cut time-in-note by 9.5% (statistically significant). Both the Nabla and control groups showed improved burnout scores. The trial also noted “clinically major inaccuracies” appeared “occasionally,” reinforcing that every ambient scribe, including Nabla, produces drafts requiring clinician review before they become part of the record.

ICD-10, HCC, and MCC coding suggestions are available as a toggleable feature. CPT coding is not currently supported and is listed on the product roadmap as of June 2026. A proactive coding agent is planned but not shipped.

Multilingual support covers 30+ languages. Multi-speaker identification separates clinician and patient speech. The system handles in-person, telehealth, and phone encounters.

Medical students and residents get access to a separate unlimited free tier. For individual early-career clinicians evaluating ambient scribes, this is genuinely generous.

The limitation for smaller practices is access. Nabla does not publish pricing. Every path on the website leads to a demo request. Third-party coverage and reseller listings place pricing around $119/provider/month, but this is not confirmed by Nabla directly.

“Nabla earns its place in enterprise ambient scribe evaluations. For solo clinicians who just want to stop charting at midnight, the sales-only access is the wrong door.”
