Tidio

A capable AI support agent wrapped in a surprisingly complicated pricing model.

VERDICT

7.6
Conditional

"Tidio is a strong choice for small ecommerce businesses that want live chat, simple automation, and AI support without an enterprise setup. Lyro handles common questions well, but the pricing becomes harder to predict once human conversations, AI conversations, and automated Flows are billed separately."

Overview

Tidio is a customer communication platform that combines live chat, ticketing, visual chatbot Flows, and an AI support agent called Lyro. It is aimed mainly at small businesses and ecommerce stores that want to answer customer questions and capture leads from one dashboard.

For this review, we tested Tidio across live chat, chatbot setup, ecommerce questions, AI handoffs, and automated sales Flows. We also looked at how its separate usage limits affect the real monthly cost.

Setup is fast. The dashboard is clean, the no-code installs for Shopify, WordPress, and Wix take minutes, and you can have a live chatbot running before lunch. The visual flow builder ships with 40+ templates covering cart recovery, product recommendations, lead capture, and FAQ handling. For an SMB that’s never touched a chatbot before, the onboarding experience is one of the smoothest in the category.

Lyro is the standout. It’s powered by Claude, handles natural-language questions well once trained on your content, and most stores land a 40-60% resolution rate on routine queries. For a small ecommerce store getting 200-300 support messages a month, Lyro can meaningfully reduce the time your team spends answering the same questions over and over.

Now the pricing. This is where Tidio gets messy. The platform runs three separate billing meters: billable conversations, Lyro AI conversations, and Flow triggers. On the Free and Starter plans, you get 50 Lyro conversations total, not per month, total. Once those are gone, Lyro stops responding unless you buy the add-on ($39+/mo). Flows cost another $29+/mo. Your “affordable $29/mo tool” quietly becomes $107/mo or more. And the jump from Growth ($59/mo) to Plus ($749/mo) is a 12x leap with nothing in between.

The other gap worth knowing: Lyro and custom Flows can’t run together. You get the AI agent or the chatbot automations, but you can’t combine them into a single conversation path. For teams that want AI handling the first response and a structured flow picking up after, that limitation is frustrating.

“Tidio’s dashboard is wonderfully simple. Its pricing is not. Count human chats, AI chats, and Flow visitors before deciding what it will cost.”

Pros Cons
+ Lyro AI resolves 40-60% of routine queries once trained on your content – Three separate billing meters make your real monthly cost hard to predict
+ Fastest setup in the category, live in under an hour on Shopify, WordPress, or Wix – 50 Lyro conversations on Free/Starter is a lifetime cap, not monthly
+ Visual flow builder with 40+ templates makes chatbot automation beginner-friendly – Can't combine Lyro AI with custom Flows in the same conversation
+ Generous free plan with live chat, helpdesk, and 50 Lyro conversations to test – Removing Tidio branding from the chat widget costs extra on top of your plan

Who would we recommend it to?

  • Small ecommerce stores that want to automate common product and order questions
  • SMBs looking for a quick-setup live chat with AI that doesn't require a developer
  • Teams that want to test AI-powered support before committing to Intercom or Zendesk
  • Businesses with predictable, low-to-mid conversation volumes under 500/mo

Skip it if:

  • You need transparent, predictable pricing without layered add-ons
  • Your support volume requires advanced routing, SLAs, or deep ticketing
  • You want AI and chatbot flows working together in a single conversation
  • You're scaling past 1,000 conversations/mo and can't justify the $749 Plus jump
