Klaviyo is an email, SMS, and customer data platform designed primarily for ecommerce. Its AI features help marketers build segments, predict customer behavior, generate email content, choose channels, and automate campaigns using store and customer data.
For this review, we focused on its AI-powered marketing features and how they hold up for different types of businesses.
Klaviyo’s AI is built on top of your customer data, and when that data is rich, the results are impressive. Predictive analytics forecast lifetime value, churn risk, and expected next order date. Smart send time optimizes delivery windows per subscriber. The K:AI agent lets you describe a flow in plain language and it builds the full automation, including triggers, splits, wait steps, and content. For a Shopify store with thousands of orders, these features pay for themselves quickly.
The pre-built ecommerce flows are where the real money is. Abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase, win-back. These ship as ready-to-use templates with solid default logic, and for many stores, the abandoned cart flow alone recovers more than the monthly subscription costs.
Here’s what nobody mentions until the bill arrives: Klaviyo charges by active profiles, not emails sent. If you import 10,000 contacts and only email 3,000, you’re paying the 10,000 tier. That pricing model punishes anyone with a large or partly dormant list. And most of the AI features that make Klaviyo worth it- predictive analytics, advanced segmentation, natural language flow building- need dense transaction data to function. A newsletter, a SaaS app, or an agency list won’t feed the machine enough to get value back.
