Mailchimp is an email and SMS marketing platform with automation, audience management, landing pages, reporting, and an expanding collection of AI features. We tested Mailchimp across email campaigns, automated sequences, landing pages, and its AI content tools. For this review, we focused on how it performs as an AI-powered marketing platform in 2026.
The email editor is still one of the best in the category. Drag-and-drop, clean templates, responsive designs that render well across clients. If all you need is to build a good-looking email and send it, Mailchimp makes that easy. The AI tools have expanded too. You can generate email copy, subject lines, and SMS content. Predictive analytics flag which customers are likely to buy, churn, or generate the highest lifetime value. Send time optimization picks the best delivery window per subscriber. For small teams without a data analyst, these features save real time.
There is a catch, naturally. Predictive analytics requires a connected ecommerce store and sufficient marketing activity, and it is limited to the Standard plan or higher. Without meaningful customer and transaction data, Mailchimp’s cleverest features have very little to be clever about.
Its Creative Assistant helps generate branded layouts and campaign assets, while the writing tools can produce drafts and variations quickly. The results are generally clean but cautious. They save time; they rarely produce an idea a capable marketer would not have reached independently.
Send Time Optimization is another practical feature, although it chooses one optimal time for a campaign rather than scheduling separately for every recipient. It also requires the Standard plan and enough previous engagement data to calculate a recommendation.
The larger problem is cost. Mailchimp counts subscribed, unsubscribed, and non-subscribed contacts toward your allowance. Duplicate contacts stored in separate audiences may also be counted more than once. You can archive contacts to reduce the total, but customers should not need a housekeeping ritual to avoid paying for people they cannot email.
Mailchimp is trying to be an email tool, a website builder, a CRM, a social scheduler, and an AI platform all at once. It does email well. Everything else feels like it’s there to justify the price, not because it’s best in class.
AI that makes social media operations faster, provided you already need everything else Hootsuite sells.
Ecommerce marketing AI that becomes genuinely useful once your store has enough customer and purchase data to feed it.
