HeyGen creates presenter videos from scripts, footage, photos, voice clones, and templates. For this review, we assessed Avatar III, IV, and V, Digital Twins, Video Agent, translation, rollover, and identity slots.
Avatar IV is the headline. The realism is a clear step above every competitor. Avatars blink naturally, gesture contextually, and maintain facial expressions that match the script’s emotional tone. For spokesperson-style videos, product demos, and training content, the output looks professional enough to post without disclaimers.
The video translator is the other major strength. Upload an existing video in any language, and HeyGen translates the audio, clones the voice, and re-syncs the avatar’s lips to match the new language. Across 175+ languages. Audio dubbing is unlimited on all paid plans and doesn’t consume premium credits. For global brands producing the same video in 20+ markets, this alone justifies the subscription.
The credit change in May 2026 is what you need to understand before buying. HeyGen moved from unlimited video plans to credit-based billing. Avatar III studio videos cost 3 credits/minute. Avatar IV and V cost 20 credits/minute. Video Agent costs 20 credits/minute. The Creator plan at $29/mo includes 600 credits. On paper, that sounds generous. In practice, if you’re using Avatar IV for a 2-minute video, that’s 40 credits per video, giving you roughly 15 standard videos or 4-5 premium ones per month. Legacy unlimited plan holders keep their plans, but can’t switch back if they cancel.
The free plan offers 3 videos per month (up to 1 minute each), which is enough to evaluate avatar quality but not enough for any production workflow.
