Speechify is a text-to-speech application that reads documents, web pages, PDFs, emails, and uploaded text aloud. It works across browser, desktop, and mobile. Speechify Studio is a separate product for creating voiceovers and audio content.
We tested Speechify across PDF reading, article listening, document consumption, and the Studio voiceover features. The core product is a reader. Upload a PDF, paste a URL, or import a document, and Speechify reads it aloud at up to 4.5x speed using AI voices. OCR scanning handles scanned documents and images with text. The mobile app lets you listen to articles, papers, and books while commuting or exercising.
Premium voices sound more natural and fluid than most competitors’ reading modes. The listening experience is smooth, well-paced, and optimized for comprehension at high speeds. For students consuming academic papers, professionals reviewing reports, or anyone with dyslexia or visual impairments, Speechify is genuinely useful.
Speechify Studio is the content creation product. It generates voiceovers with commercial rights, multiple voices, and basic editing controls. It’s functional for quick voiceover jobs but lacks the production depth of Murf (no video editor, no timeline sync, no stock media) and the voice quality of ElevenLabs. Studio exists because Speechify’s audience asked for creation tools, but it’s clearly secondary to the reading product.
The free plan includes 10 robotic-sounding voices for text-to-speech. Premium costs $29/month and includes 1,000+ voices across 60+ languages. Speechify Studio remains a separate product with separate pricing.
