Notion AI is built into Notion’s pages, databases, meetings, search, and connected workspace tools. It can answer questions, summarize documents, draft content, populate database properties, and complete multi-step work.
For this review, we assessed workspace search, database autofill, meeting notes, Custom Agents, plan restrictions, and credit pricing.
Workspace search is the feature that carries the product. Ask a question about a project and Notion AI can search pages, meeting notes, databases, and connected sources. The answer can include the pages it used, which makes it easier to check where the information came from.
This works well when the workspace has one reliable answer. It works badly when the same policy exists in four places. The AI may find the old version because it uses the same language as the question. Verified pages help by marking approved information as current. Someone still needs to archive outdated documents and give pages clear names.
That makes Notion AI unusually dependent on housekeeping. It does not clean up the knowledge problem before answering from it. If the company has treated Notion as a cupboard for years, AI search makes the cupboard easier to open. It does not tell you which box should have been thrown away.
Database Autofill is the most practical everyday feature. Basic Autofill can summarize a page, extract names or dates, translate text, and assign tags. It works row by row and uses the content inside that entry. A feedback database can therefore label every submission without someone reading each one first.
Basic Autofill cannot search the web or the wider workspace. Custom Agent Autofill can use broader context and follow multi-step instructions. It can find related information, update several properties, and apply conditions. That extra intelligence uses Notion credits.
Custom Agents go further. They can run on a schedule or trigger, read workspace information, update pages, and communicate through connected tools. Every run is logged and changes can be reversed. The danger is less about invisible activity and more about cost. Agents use additional credits based on how much they read and how many actions they take.
Credits cost $10 per 1,000. A simple agent may cost a few cents per run. A daily brief that searches several sources and performs several actions can cost considerably more. Credits are shared across the workspace and do not roll over. If the balance runs out, Custom Agents pause.
The subscription is also an important filter. Full AI features are included with Business and Enterprise. Free and Plus users receive limited trial access. Notion AI is therefore difficult to justify if the workspace is mainly a personal notebook.
