Canva for Education gives verified K-12 teachers and their students access to Canva Pro features at no cost. After verifying educator status, teachers unlock premium templates, brand tools, Magic Studio AI, education-specific classroom management features, and the 100GB storage allowance currently listed for Canva Pro. Teachers pay nothing.
For this review, we assessed Magic Write, Magic Design, Magic Media, Canva Code, student controls, eligibility, and AI allowances.
The AI features included under Magic Studio cover the classroom creation workflow end-to-end. Magic Design generates complete visual layouts from a photo upload or text description. Magic Write generates text inside any Canva design: lesson prompts, newsletter content, worksheet instructions, slide text, and descriptions. Magic Edit transforms images with AI-generated additions or replacements. Magic Eraser removes unwanted objects from photos. Magic Resize reformats a single design for every format and platform. Beat Sync handles AI-powered video editing timing.
For teachers creating physical and digital classroom materials, the template library and AI generation together eliminate most of the design time that would otherwise require graphic design skills or expensive assets. Lesson presentation decks, worksheets, infographics, posters, assignment instructions, parent newsletters, classroom displays, and student-facing activity sheets are all produced inside one platform with AI assistance at each step.
Classroom management tools layer education-specific features on top of the Pro design experience. Teachers create classes, invite students with school-safe accounts that include age-appropriate content filtering, and assign Canva templates for student projects. FERPA and COPPA compliance is documented. Integrations with Google Classroom, Canvas, Moodle, and Microsoft Teams for Education enable direct assignment distribution and submission.
The AI tools have usage limits on some features even within the Education plan. The limitations are minor for most classroom use cases but occasionally surface for heavy generators. Canva Offline is now listed as a current feature, although cloud collaboration and some AI tools still depend on connectivity.
Verification usually takes up to 24 hours but may take seven days during busy periods. For teachers without a school domain email, verification may require additional documentation.
